Player 1: Teacher Edition

I feel like summer just started, but somehow I'm already planning next year's classroom. Our charter school chooses a different theme every year, and this year's theme is games. My co-teacher and I decided to put our own spin on it by creating an Animal Crossing classroom, and it's been so much fun bringing our ideas to life. Between brainstorming bulletin boards, classroom jobs, and welcome displays, we've been using AI to quickly visualize our ideas before making anything. With Amazon Prime Day around the corner, we've also been putting together our classroom wishlist and deciding which items will have the biggest impact for our students.

As fun as the decorating has been, this week's readings reminded me that good design is about much more than making a classroom look cute. Every decision should have a purpose and support the learners you're designing for. Whether it's using AI to brainstorm ideas, choosing classroom materials, or planning learning activities, the goal is to create an environment where students feel excited, supported, and ready to learn. It was a good reminder that thoughtful design always starts with the learners, not just the tools.

  1. Hi Hannah! I must say I am a bit jealous you get to have so much fun with decorating your classroom! I previously worked at a charter school and they were very strict on how we could decorate our spaces. I am glad you guys have a unified theme and can really go "all in" for your kiddos! I'm sure AI has been a super helpful resource for designing your classroom. I do agree, each thing you put in your room should be intentional and meaningful to your kids. It is also important to have things that excite them and keep them wanting to come to school!
